What's so bad about marriage?

Slate published an astonishing piece on the decline of marrriage, increase in out-of-wedlock births and its affects on society. I've wanted to write a story about this for years, but I can't seem to wrap my head around it.

So I turn to you. Why is this happening? Is it a lack of faith? A too lenient society? The prevalence of sex in the media?

Marriage is great, but it takes true committment, hard work, and a complete GIVING of one's self. That last part is usually where people screw up.

A big piece of advice, one also reflected in AA teachings, if you have a problem with something, there is always something you can change about yourself to make things better.

Good points -- particularly about changing yourself. I've seen that in friends' marriages and its amazing how much difference it makes.
